Description

  • Come and be an early member of the robotics team at Capstan Medical, working closely with existing device and implant teams to ensure a holistic product design and development approach
  • Be a part of designing and building a proof-of-concept system that brings an initial clinical value proposition to life, and then develop that into a successful product
  • The role will be responsible for translating clinical and user needs into design requirements and addressing those with practical mechanical designs, building mechanical designs into testable prototypes, and efficiently capturing design learnings for quick iteration loops
  • On-site participation in building and bringing up prototype robotic systems and support in their pre-clinical lab use, with a focus on all things mechanical
  • Align individual work to best support company goals. Identifying high risk items and being part of developing solutions
  • Help build a new robust and high performance department from the ground up in addition to building a world class product
  • Document and communicate your work through design reviews and as appropriate released documents as part of the product development process
  • Identify gaps and pitch in as needed to ensure that the team meets their goals and objectives

Skills

  • Familiarity with using CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for creating detailed parts, assemblies, and drawings for manufacturing, using GD&T as appropriate
  • Ability to select and manage vendors to source components for relevant design needs. Collaborate with vendors to find optimal solutions and ensure successful results
  • Experience with motor sizing and designing tightly packaged custom electromechanical actuators
  • Understanding of how early design decisions cascade into outcomes later. Ability to make smart decisions regarding DFM, clinical workflow, regulations, and risk management to save time and effort later
  • Comfortable working with high levels of ambiguity and an ability to convert that into tangible outcomes
  • Experience with designing, manufacturing transfer, and shipping of medical device capital equipment
  • Experience with medical device development process, design control, design verification, and regulatory processes

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Expecting 6 to 15 years of relevant experience (medical device experience preferred)
